GCSSD will be offering COVID-19 tests at school for grades 5-12.
Testing will only be done with parent permission and in the following circumstances:
• For those who visit the nurse with COVID-like symptoms according to the Tennessee Department of Health (TDOH) School Decision Support Algorithm.
• For those who need a test to return to school early from quarantine (day 5 and after, return on day 8, if no symptoms)
• For those who require testing for school travel or athletics.
Students tested at school must have a signed parental consent for permission to test.
The tests done at school only test for COVID-19 and do not exclude other illnesses, so a health care providers evaluation will be needed for symptomatic students. Tests are not 100% accurate and false negatives and positives can occur. Symptomatic students will be given a rapid test first and if negative a 30-minute PCR.

These can be submitted via email to toddk@gcssd.org or dropped off in the main office labeled with your children’s names. If you send originals with your student, we can make copies. Mental and emotional health are critical for student success. By building and maintaining school mental health supports and services, GCSSD wants to enable our students to achieve their full potential. We would like to know what areas of concern that parents have regarding their students’ mental health; therefore, we are asking for 8th-12th grade parents to complete this short anonymous survey so that we may plan to serve our students in the best way possible.
